What happened in Tampa

I just recently started watching The Wire. And I’m only about 10 episodes in so far, so I could be setting myself up for a big laugh by saying this if it turns out that my metaphor actually ends up bloodied and at the bottom of a dumpster.

But in many ways, I’ve felt with my job how McNulty felt in the show. Someone less concerned about playing the game than getting it right. Smart enough to read the landscape and adapt on the fly. Too busy playing both sides of the streets and the suits to have time to play both sides of the actual job and the bull shit.

Set up to fail. And succeeding not in spite of, but probably as a direct cause of it.

I could stay. But I’m not.
